. In stories such as *عقل سرخ*, *فی حالۀ الطفولیه*, *قصۀ غربت غربی*, and *آواز پر جبرئیل*, the "Desert" is the place where the encounter with the "Pir" takes place. In these stories, the "Desert," through the intuitive experiences that occur within it, distances itself from its physical and objective nature and moves towards a phenomenal and cognitive existence. The desert transforms from a physical place into a phenomenon whose most important characteristic is becoming spatial, or movement towards spatiality. Furthermore, the present study argues that the imaginal and intermediary characteristic of the "Pir's" being, by being situated in the desert and interacting with it, is also transferred to the desert. In other words, the place we encounter in these stories has a suspended state, being simultaneously both a place and a space. Just as the Pir, while having a material existence, is detached from it, the place of the Pir's presence – the desert – following his example, simultaneously possesses both the characteristics of materiality and immateriality, or in other words, being a place and being a space. In fact, the continuous Analysis of the Sign-Meaning of the Desert and the Concept of the Philosophical Elder in Suhrawardi's Treatises presence of the Pir's two-fold nature in the desert elevates it from a functional place to a transcendental and phenomenal place. In this ontological encounter, the desert transforms from a conventional and universally understood sign into a slippery and unconditioned symbol. | ||
