| چکیده | ||
| Kalhori Kurdish verbal endings (personal markers) attach to the stem as suffixes, with their phonetic forms undergoing changes depending on the phonological context. This study investigates the alternating forms of these endings resulting from morphophonological processes, aiming to determine whether or not an underlying initial vowel exists in their representation, identify the processes involved, and establish the order in which these processes apply. Using a descriptive-analytical method within Optimality Theory (McCarthy, 2008), data were collected through 12 hours of interviews with 15 Kalhori Kurdish speakers. Additional data from two speakers' responses to the "Atlas of Iranian Languages" questionnaire were transcribed using IPA and then analyzed through segmentation. Findings reveal that verbal endings have an underlying initial vowel. Three dominant processes—deletion, glide formation, and vowel coalescence—apply in that order to resolve vowel hiatus. The analysis shows that specific constraints are active in Kalhori Kurdish, with their ranking determining various hiatus resolution strategies. High vowels resist deletion, causing deletion to yield to glide formation. However, since sequences of two high elements are prohibited, glide formation is replaced by vowel coalescence when it would create such a sequence. These constraint interactions demonstrate the systematic nature of morphophonological alternations in Kalhori Kurdish verbal morphology | ||
