| This study aims to investigate the typological status of the Laylakhi Kurdish dialect and to analyze its word-order features.To this end, Dryer’s 24 typological parameters, known as the “Greenbergian word-order correlations,”are examined alongside data drawn from relevant linguistic corpora. Dabir-Moghaddam’s analytical framework, based on Dryer’s model, is used to analyze and compare these parameters. The findings indicate that, compared with the word-order patterns commonly found in Asian and European languages, Laylakhi Kurdish shows a marked tendency toward verb-medial patterns. Parameters 1, 2, 6, 10, 18, and 24 display notable syntactic and morphophonological properties. These include the use of prepositions and circumpositions with the form /wæ/, resulting from the phonological lenition of /b/ to /w/; the special distribution of the relativizer /wɑ/, while the relativizer /-kæ/ occurs only rarely; the occurrence of the consonant [ɰ] in the second-person singular verbal suffix; and the neutralization of person distinctions in the plural forms of the pluperfect of intransitive verbs, marked by /-y-n/,as a result of vowel-hiatus resolution. Moreover, in Parameter 24, the placement of the inflectional negative and prohibitive prefixes (/nɑ-/ and /mæ-/) before verbal or derivational preverbs is consistent with Greenberg’s Universal 28 concerning the relative ordering of inflectional and derivational affixes. | ||
